Additional First Wave Communities
The towns pivot table identifies five additional towns beyond the nine already examined. Four were involved exclusively in the first wave of accusations: Beverly, Billerica, Ipswich, and Woburn. In Boxford, witch accusations were entirely a second wave phenomenon.
While the seaport town of Beverly borders on Salem Village, Billerica, Woburn, and Ipswich range farther outward from Salem Village than communities with greater numbers of accused. Yet they generally conform to the pattern of a southern arc established by the initial group of towns. With the distinct exception of Ipswich, they are located to south of Salem Village, where they link with Salem Town, Lynn, and Reading.
